Title: Why first person violent video games are so addictive
Date:26/09/17
Article
Author:Ted Thornhill

This article explains why FPS games is so addictive with the popular games such as "Call of duty","Halo" and "Counter strike global offensive"

This article amazed me because it states "More than one billion multiplayer matches of shoot-em-up Call of duty:Ghosts have already been played since November" if you ask me that is quite alot of matches to be played. The start of the article it explains one or the core reasons why people get so addicted to FPS games and it is they feel like god and they feel like they are in control of their destiny and they are in control on environment.

This text is relevant to students my age because all around the world teenagers just like me gets addicted to some sort of FPS game.Half way through the article said that another reason for addiction is because it gives us games a adrenaline rush just like fighting a wild animal because when you leave your experience you think to yourself that was enjoyable, that was fun. This relates to me because when I leave my gaming sessions I think to myself yeah that was a good time!

The last point of why you most likely are addicted to FPS games is because there is factors in the game if you do good you get something worth while in return and it gives the players the decision making mind set when playing the game and once again this relates to me and other gamers around the world since famous world FPS titles does give that special reward if you do good and leave you craving for more.

Title:Sarah vaughn is not my mother
Date:26/09/17
Author:Maryjane thomson
Novel

This nonfiction novel I have chosen to write about gives an indepth description of what it is like to have Schizophrenia, It tells a story about an young lady and her life. In my opinion I really enjoyed this book because it is realistic. I have learned to not judge a book by its cover e.g by the way the book showed the people.

It gave me the image of a small group in London,UK in a psychward with the patients dulled up on meds.It is a downer because it tells the reader about a few of the patients and how they all have bright imagination.Which has been destroyed by meds for example "Everything seems so beautiful outside, but on these meds it seems so dull and boring" says Marry Jane.

This real story is told from MaryJane character and she is pretty straight up. I really enjoyed the way she described herself in the book "I am beautiful , but unstable what a sad mix" She just wanted to be free from her mind haunting her. The way she speaks and describes things just made me think different about people and I think it is pretty cool.

Title:Schindlers list
Date:26/09/17
Author:Steven spielberg
Film

Schindler list is about a guy named Oskar Schindler and how he entered world war two as a businessman to get rich and start up his own factory.Schindler invests into his cookware factory in Poland which was occupied by the Nazis. Oskar hired cheap Jewish people to work for him. Oskar finally realizes that the Nazis want all Jewish people eliminated.

I was inspired on how Oskar changed his heart around to try save as many Jewish people as possible to put his life on the line. Oskar started to help more Jewish people as the days came. He befriended so many high S.S officers to save as many Jewish people as possible and I can not really believe Oskar put his life on the line to save over 1,000 Jewish people and it makes me happy that someone is that thoughtful.

Near the end of the movie Oskar lost nearly a whole train of people who got sent to Auschwitz. Schindler got so attached to his workers he managed to move his workers to his native Czechoslovakia and manages to save them, At the end of the movie Germany admitted defeat and Schindler told his Jewish workers they are free and can go.When Schindler said his goodbye he said "I could of saved one more, I could of saved two in tears". The only reason I chose this film was because my great granddad was in world war two and he survived it and I always had a interest in why Nazis had so much hatred for Jewish people.

Title:The curious incident of the dog in the nightmare
Date:26/9/17
Author:Mark Haddon
Novel

This book I have read lately is called "The curious incident of the dog in the nightmare" it is about a little kid called "Christoper" with autism and the book is wrote from his point of view.I chose this book because it sparked one of my interests. I have never read a book like this ever and it stuck me what was in this book.

I learnt from this book that no one should be judged by there cover.I noticed in the story that it shows no emotion from him but I guess that is how someone with autism is.I personally think I could have been better when it came to Christoper and how he acted but considering I do not have much tolerance for people like that I guess that explains my opinion.

This story took place in London,UK which was rather interesting because it also gives you this image of how people are.I know someone that has the same problem and I never understood him until I read this book which I am happy I have read.

Title:The science of thinking
Author:Veritasuim
Text Type:Video/Film
Date:28/3/2017

Veritasuim is A youtuber who makes interesting content about science, education and interesting facts.Veritasuim made a YouTube video about how their is two sides of your brain also your conscious and subconscious in the video called "The science of thinking".This video explains more deeply how our brain filters information and how when we have to think we are uncomfortable.

It got me thinking on how lazy we get as humans when we come across a problem and we actually have to use our brain. The YouTube video gave me a insight to how humans do not want to think and when we do we try to find the easiest and quickest way witch explains why we can get simple questions wrong. For example Veritasuim went up to two guys and asked "how long does it take for the Earth to go around the sun" and they answered 24 hours but obviously the correct answer is one full year. When the two guys answered the question their brain triggered system 2 witch represents your conscious thoughts and is lazy and it is hard to get system 2 to think. When system 2 starts to think he gets uncomfortable and tries to find a quick and easy way to the solution. When we first learnt on how to tie our shoe laces we probably learnt from a song or a rhyme and we had to constantly think about the rhyme.when we were tying our laces but everyday we kept on tying our shoes then it got to a point when system 2 did not have to think about it and we didnt get uncomfortable thinking about the rhyme. When we have to give the effort and practice when we think we can send the information to system 1 witch does not have to think about what we are doing and simply does the order because we recognize the information.Another example is when we learn to play a instrument we have to think where our fingers go but after a while we do not have to think about where our fingers go and we just do it.

This video gave me a insight to how we learn things naturally and we do not have to think about doing them. There is a way to see how our system 2 works or anyone's that  is concentrating hard. When system 2 is in thinking mode and not lazy you can see in the pupils eye that the pupil gets larger when system 2 is working hard or it can include more sweat production, higher heart rate and pupil dilation.Lets go back to the example I gave when Veritasuim went up to the two guys and asked "how long does it take for the Earth to go around the sun" and they answered 24 hours. When the two guys got asked that question System one thinks really fast but made a mistake then passed it to system 2 witch thought 24 hours is the correct answer and was to lazy to check if it was correct or not because he didnt want to think about the answer. When something that is confusing to system 2 it works harder and you are more likely to get the correct answer.

To conclude this I think "The science of thinking" is a amazing video to watch since you get more understanding of how the brain works and basically system 1 is fast and takes in a lot more information causing mistakes and always active unlike system 2 witch is slow and lazy.
